1980-Current

By 1979 the number of cabins had increased along with the tennis court being built. In 1982 a fire hall and public well were built. Church services were both in the hall and outside on the lawn, weather permitting. By 1986 pancake breakfast and shuffleboard tournaments were underway as well as the first riprapping to preserve the shoreline began. Since this time other developments have taken place, including potluck suppers the “50+ club” the gazebo in the park was built, fishing derbys, lawn-bowling, mini golf and the boat launch was rebuilt as it stands today.

1970-1980

The Resort began as a bear Desert Hill with very few planted trees, power poles, and an odd cabin. Eventually, more trees were planted by volunteers and a few more cabins were constructed. During this time, shoreline erosion was already evident in the front of the hillside cabins. But the construction on the hall/pavilion was completed, (including a flagpole with the Union Jack flying), watering trees along the perimeter was done using a tractor operated pump and by 1977, all the trees around the perimeter and in the park were doing well.

1960-1970

Coteau Beach was started in the late 1960s after Lake Diefenbaker was created. Way back in 1969, the first meeting was held regarding purchasing lots for sale in the present village of Coteau Beach. It is remembered by some that this meeting took place in the fall of 1969 in the basement of the Rose Town Elk’s Hall. To allocate lots, names of interested owners were picked out of a hat.
